1928 - a pivotal year for the soviet union ... hope & history unfolding. i felt a deep connection to the people in this film. the filmmakers, vertov & svilova lovingly embrace the faces / bodies / lives of working people & depict a heroism of film, industry, the new society - a communion of hopes & dreams ... and around the corner ... in our eyes we see the coming war (1 in 3 war deaths during world war II were soviets), the devastating impact of stalin ... we hear the low rumble of a relentless tide moving towards them ...
i wondered what low siren calls for us ... just below the surface ... what moment in history? what lies before us ... unfolding, relentlessly .... a human tide
